The Scott Center House is being prepared for demolition with asbestos abatement activities and the salvaging of interior items that have already taken place and donated to Habitat for Humanity. Demolition is expected to begin Monday, March 13 and continue through the week. The BWL was prepared to pay up to $100,000 to move the house to a qualified bidder following three Request for Proposals issued by the City of Lansing, which owns the house. Attempts to find a qualified bidder were not successful. Unfortunately the Scott Center House and surrounding vegetation must be removed in order to make room for the Central Substation, which will provide reliable power to the downtown Lansing area. Following three public design charettes for exterior wall design suggestions from the community, the BWL is expected to announce the final design in late spring/early summer. Design plans that will move the Sunken Garden a few hundred feet to the southwest along with additional park and recreation amenities and improvements to Scott Park continue to be in development.
